Signature Plastics

PC (Polycarbonate)

Signature Plastics extrudes custom PC profiles for applications where impact resistance is critical and the profile must remain intact under force. Polycarbonate is commonly selected when a clear or translucent profile is required for visibility, protection, or safety.

PC extrusions are used in protective, industrial, and architectural applications where strength and visibility are both required.

What is PC (Polycarbonate)?

Polycarbonate is a rigid thermoplastic material known for its toughness and resistance to impact. In extrusion, PC is used for profiles that need to resist cracking or shattering under load and, in many cases, remain clear or translucent.

PC is not chosen for flexibility or low-cost applications. It is selected when performance under impact and visibility are the primary drivers.

Typical PC Applications

PC is commonly specified for extruded profiles used in demanding or safety-related environments. Applications include:

  • Protective guards and shields
  • Transparent covers and enclosures
  • Safety glazing profiles
  • Machine guarding profiles
  • Light diffusers and lens profiles
  • Architectural glazing profiles
  • Equipment housings where visibility is required
  • Many PC profiles are cut, machined, or assembled after extrusion to meet installation or system requirements.

Advantages of Extruded PC

  • Extremely high impact resistance
  • Can be produced in clear or translucent forms
  • Resists cracking and shattering
  • Suitable for safety and protective applications
  • Performs well in indoor and outdoor environments
  • Maintains strength across a wide temperature range

PC is typically selected when a profile needs to withstand impact while allowing visibility or maintaining shape, rather than flex, cushion, or minimize cost.
